I recently attended Commonwealth’s national conference and had the good fortune of talking to Bloomberg Radio about a very interesting trend in retirement planning. Other topics included how to deal with anxiety about market volatility and what to look for in working with a financial advisor (hint: hire a true fiduciary!).

Bloomberg “Drive to the Close” hosts Carol Massar and Jason Kelly referred to me as “the man about the conference”, which was flattering. I began attending Commonwealth’s annual conference in 2008 as an investment consultant to Commonwealth financial advisers. It is wonderful to now participate in this conference as a financial planner sitting side-by-side with the many advisers that were formerly my clients.

Commonwealth Financial Network®, the nation’s largest privately held Registered Investment Advisor–independent broker/dealer, drew nearly 2,000 affiliated advisers, staff, guests, and sponsors for its 2019 annual conference. Participants gathered in Denver, Colorado, where we collaborated with colleagues to strengthen our leadership skills and enhance the high-end service that we provide our clients.

Briefly, the interesting trend in retirement planning is the rise of accessory dwelling units (“ADUs”). An ADU is a detached home, apartment over a garage, or “granny flat” that can be rented out to supplement income in retirement and provide extra space for family or friends. See more from the American Planning Association or give me a call to discuss.
